Locoal-Mendon
Locoal -Mendon is a commune with 3167 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Morbihan in the Brittany region.
Geography
The municipality is located in the southwest of the department between the agglomerations of Lorient and Vannes, about five kilometers northwest of the town of Auray.
Locoal -Mendon borders in the north on the community Landaul, to the east by crushing, to the south Ploemel and Erdeven, on the southwest by Belz and to the west by the Étel, a coastal river that flows in the estuary to a branched bay ( Ria d'Etel ) expands. The Western community members extend as peninsulas in the bay.
History
From prehistoric times can be found in the municipality of several dolmens.
The district Locoal goes back to a hermitage of the Holy goal, an English monk who came to this area from 631 AD to the Christian missionary. Mendon originated in the 10th century by a division of the territory of Ploemel. The incorporation of Locoal at Mendon under the name Locoal -Mendon was in 1806 by Napoleon's decision.

Economy and infrastructure
While the center and the east to the settlement centers Mendon and Lapaul is dominated by agriculture, the western parts of municipalities are affected by the water situation and the tidal currents of the Ria d'Etel. As everywhere in the Ria oyster farming facilities are located here as well.
In the northeast of the municipality is located north of the N165 a small industrial area.
Traffic
The municipality is in the northeast of the highway N165 (Brest - Nantes Quimper - Lorient - Vannes - ) Having reefs. The driveway to the N165 lies in the northern neighboring community Landaul on the D16, which connects the district with Mendon Landaul and Pluvigner the northeast and Belz and Étel in the southwest.
Outside of school transport, the municipality is served by public transport only on market day of Auray. Approx. one kilometer north of the municipal boundary is the railway station Landaul -Mendon, where several times daily regional trains of TER Bretagne ( Lorient route - Vannes ) hold (as of December 2013). The nearest train station with intercity transport connection is located in Auray, closest airport is Lorient Bretagne Sud.
