Lovinobaňa

Lovinobana ( until 1927 slovak " Lovinobana "; Hungarian Lónyabánya ) is a town in central Slovakia about 15 km north of Lučenec and 40 km south-east of Zvolen. It lies between the mountains Stolické Hills and Ostrôžky in the valley of the brook Kriváň.

The village was first mentioned in writing in 1336. In the Middle Ages iron ores were mined in the town and its surroundings, worked until the end of the 17th century still two hammer mills.

After the First World War, the site grew to become a center of magnesite. The degradation was started in 1924, in 1932 temporarily suspended and resumed and expanded again in the context of the war economy.

Between 1938 and 1945 - during the period that the former district town Lučenec to Hungary as a result of the First Vienna Award Lovinobana was the seat of a district.

In 1990 the south to the village Uderiná was incorporated and since then has been an official part of the municipality.

Interesting the Protestant church of 1863 is in late Classicist style; this was built in the place of a Gothic church.
