The University of Music Lübeck ( MHL ) is the only music academy in the state of Schleswig -Holstein. Origin and history

An institutionalized training for solo, orchestra musicians and music educators are in Lübeck since 1911. Today's music goes back to high school founded by the piano teacher Marie Luise Kaibel as a private conservatory.

Building

The 1974 restored for the college listed building located in an ensemble of 22 town houses below the St. Peter's church on the Upper Trave and are counted by the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Staff

At the MHL teach around 170 lecturers, including 30 professors. Many of them are active as soloists, chamber musicians and teachers worldwide. These included the clarinetist Sabine Meyer.

Concerts and projects

Part of the study is the stage practice. In -house theaters in the semester, there are concerts every day with students and faculty held for a public audience. As part of these concerts a Brahms Festival takes place, a concert in which selected students together with faculty. The high school orchestra plays annually under the direction of guest conductors. The International Buxtehude Organ Competition follows on from Lübeck's long tradition of church music.
