Luis Cordero Crespo

Luis Cordero Crespo ( born April 6, 1833 in Surampalti, Delek, today Cañar; † January 30, 1912 in Cuenca) was an Ecuadorian lawyer, poet and politician. From 1892 to 1895 he was President of Ecuador.

Luis Cordero was born in 1833 as the son of small farmers. He studied at the Colegio Seminario Conciliar among other de Cuenca, where he held a professorship in the humanities.

Cordero was a member of the Liberal Catholic Progressive Party ( Partido Progresista ), as member he belonged after the fall of General Ignacio de Veintemilla January 14, 1883 to October 15, 1883 for a liberal transitional government, the presidency of which he took over.

From 1 July 1892 to 16 April 1895, he was President of Ecuador. His Vice President was initially Pablo Herrera (until January 1894) and then Vicente Lucio Salazar, who then followed him up to the June 5, 1895 in office.

President Eloy Alfaro authorized him in 1910 as Minister to represent Ecuador at the celebration of the hundred years of independence of Chile 1910.

As a poet Luis Cordero wrote a number of poems in Spanish and Kichwa language and thus provided some of the first contributions to the Ecuadorian Kichwa literature. He also published a dictionary Kichwa - Spanish - Kichwa.
