Criticism
In the history of league football in Malaysia there was often criticism at various points.
Radical changes in position
After the league started in 2004 with just eight teams, it came in the seasons 2005 and 2006, often to very radical position changes. 2005 was Perak FA after 14 games in the last place. After six consecutive victories, the team was in second place and finished the season in third place. In the 2006 season Selangor MPPJ led after ten matchdays at the table. Eight straight losses brought the team in Abstiegsnot and she was able to escape only with two wins from their last two games.
Permanent change in the league format
The reason for the founding of TM Super League was to continue to raise the standard of football in Malaysia. The press, however, criticized here is that there is no difference to the earlier M- League. In addition, the many changes to the league format would not contribute to a stabilization of football and teams.
Foreign Players
When not helpful to advance the football in Malaysia, the use of foreign players is considered. Most teams and clubs see foreign players as a necessity, so the squad is mostly filled with foreigners. Most of these players will be taken on the basis of tryouts before the season under contract. It often happens that some players will be released after two to three games or the entire season not used.
Ivan Ziga, a player from Slovakia was, for Sarawak FA in the squad. Later he complained that his contract was terminated nine months before the end without giving reasons. Furthermore, he would never have obtained a salary. When he presented his complaint to the FAM, they only reacted when he was threatened with FIFA. There are several cases of this kind, especially with players from Africa whose contracts were terminated and which were just then on his own.
