Malcov

Malcov ( until 1927 slovak " Maľcov "; Hungarian Malco ) is a town in eastern Slovakia, with 1525 inhabitants ( 31 December 2011). It belongs to Okres Bardejov, Prešov Region of a circle.

Geography

The municipality is located in the northern foothills of the mountains Čergov near the Polish border in the Low Beskids. Through the village streams Večný creek and Velky Rybny creek, which open into the Topľa at the lower end of flow. The N.M. at an altitude of 409 m lying village center is 19 km west of Bardejov and situated 37 km east of Stara Ľubovňa.

History

The town was first mentioned in 1338 as Malczow writing, but probably existed already in the 13th century. The village belonged over the centuries to various landowners. 1427 Malcov was one of the largest villages in the area, with 51 Porta. 1828 are listed 136 houses and 1,018 inhabitants.
