Maltese Premier League

The Maltese Premier League ( from sponsors reason: BOV Premier League), colloquially known as Il- Kampjonat, Il- Lig, or Il- Premjer, is the highest league in the Maltese football, and currently consists of twelve teams. Prior to 1980, the first division was called the First Division, today announced the designation of the second division.

Mode

The season runs between August to May of the following year and will be held in two rounds. In the first round ( First Round ) All teams will compete against each other twice, resulting in a total of 22 game days. In the second round of the league will be divided into two groups. The crews of places 1-6 play in a Masters round ( Championship Pool ) for the championship and international business, while the other six teams in a relegation round ( Relegation Pool ) determine two teams relegated to the Maltese First Division. Also in the second round play all teams within their group per two games against each other.

After the first round, the accumulated points of each team will be halved. If a team say for example with 30 points from the first round out, they will start with 15 points in the second round. If, when dividing the points is not an integer (eg 15 points → 7.5), the result is rounded up business.
