Manuel Alberto Claro

Manuel Alberto Claro ( born April 3, 1970 in Santiago de Chile, Chile ) is a Chilean- Danish cinematographer.

Life

His parents fled Manuel Alberto Claro 1974 to Denmark after Augusto Pinochet had assumed power in a military coup in the country. He graduated from the Istituto Europeo di Design in Milan as a photographer and worked for several years worldwide as a photo assistant, before he studied from 1997 to 2001 at the Den Danske Filmskole in Copenhagen. Where he met the Danish director Christoffer Boe, with whom he jointly turned his feature film debut Reconstruction.

Most recently, he worked for the internationally renowned Danish director Lars von Trier film Melancholia in, so Claro admitted that this is a " secret dream " was fulfilled. For this work he was awarded the European Film Award for Best Cinematography.
