Marcelo Nicola

Marcelo Patricio Nicola Virginio ( born May 12, 1971 in Rafaela, Argentina ) is a former Argentine professional basketball player and current coach.

Playing career

In the club

Marcelo Nicola began his professional career in 1988 at the Argentine Club Sports Club Santa Fe, where he stood for a season under contract. With his move to Europe in 1989 began a successful career that led him through the leading European Championships in Spain, Greece and Italy for the power forward. Nicola was played by, among others, for the top teams TAU Ceramica, Panathinaikos or Barcelona. From 1989 to 2007 Nicola was able to win a number of titles and was selected in 1993 by the Houston Rockets in 50 out of the NBA draft. His most successful phase of the power forward had the Italian first division club Benetton Treviso. In addition to two championships, three cup victories and two Supercup title, Nicola 1999 won for the second time in his career the Saporta Cup and also reached the final of the 2003 ULEB Euro League. 2005 Nikola reached with BC Kyiv the final of the FIBA EuroCup.

In the national

With the Argentina national team Nicola took part in the World Championships in 1994 and 1998 and the 1996 Olympics.

Coaching career

After his playing career took Nikola, at his former club Benetton Treviso, under coach Oktay Mahmuti the post of Co - Traniers.
