Mark Whitecage

Mark White Cage ( born June 4, 1937 in Litchfield (Connecticut) ) is an American saxophonist (soprano and alto saxophone) and clarinetist ( alto ) of the Free and Creative jazz, free improvisation and contemporary music.

Work

Mark White Cage played an early age in his father's band. In the 1970s, he worked at John Fischer, Bobby Naughton and Wadada Leo Smith. He became known in Europe in the 1980s, through his participation in Gunter Hampel's Galaxy Dream Band, in which he worked on albums such as All the Things You Could be If Charles Mingus Was Your Daddy by 1978/1980 or the live album Fresh Heat by 1985. he also played in this time with Jeanne Lee, Steve Swell and Saheb Sarbib. With clarinetist Perry Robinson and Mike Morgenstern he played in the Licorice Factory. After a European tour in 1986, he took over as head of two bands, Liquid Time and Glass House Ensemble. In the 1990s, worked with the Improvisers Collective and released a number of albums on the independent label Avantgarde CIMP, where musicians like Dominic Duval, Jay Rosen and Tomas Ulrich participated. Whitecage appeared in 1996 also ( as a soloist on soprano saxophone) on the opera " Trillium R: Shala Fears For The Poor " by Anthony Braxton with. He was also involved recordings of William Parker, Joe Fonda, Dominic Duval and Joe McPhee. By 2000 he was a member of the band The Nu band, which also included trumpeter Roy Campbell, bassist Joe Fonda and drummer Lou Grassi. White Cage is married to the clarinetist Rozanne Levine, with whom he brings to the performance of the work based on words of George W. Bush and newspaper reports " Bushwacked " (CD 2005); they stand in the future along with Perry Robinson on in a trio named Crystal Clarinets.
