The Marktredwitz railway station is the major district town Marktredwitz in the Bavarian administrative region Upper Franconia. Here cross the two main routes Nuremberg - Cheb and Regensburg -Hof.

The Marktredwitzer station - at the opening still called Station Marktredwitz - is an important railway junction in northern Bavaria. It is located in the northwestern city area and is away from the city center about a five minute walk.

At Station Square is the central bus station, from where buses connect Marktredwitz with the surrounding area. The bus station is also stopping point of the BEX - Bavaria Berlin Express. Beside the railway station there is a hotel, a main office of the German post office, a medical center and the headquarters of the Scherdel Group, a leading manufacturer of technical feathers.

History

The train station (now section of the Nuremberg- Cheb) and Marktredwitz - Holenbrunn (now section of the route Regensburg -Hof ) opened on 15 May 1878 by the Bavarian State Railroad along with the railroad tracks Nennslingen - Marktredwitz as a through station. The expansion to the junction station was with the commissioning of the branch after Schirnding on November 20, 1879 ( later extended to Cheb, both today sections of the Nuremberg- Cheb) and the compound of Wiesau (now section of the route Regensburg -Hof ) on June 1, 1882 instead.

Before the Second World War Marktredwitz was an important railway hub for all of Europe. The lines Rome -Munich- Berlin -Stockholm and Paris -Nuremberg- Prague crossed to him.
