Martin Gruber

Martin Gruber ( born November 11, 1975 in Brixen ) is a former Italian natural track luge. He won two silver medals in the single-seater at the European Championships in 1995 and at the World Cup in 1998 and the bronze medal in the team competition at the World Championships in 2001. In the World Cup he placed with five wins and a total of 19 podium finishes, four times in the top three in the overall standings.

Career

Gruber took off in 1991 at the European junior championships. He won the silver medal in 1992 and 1993 and 1995 bronze medal in the single-seater. From 1993 he also started in the general class in international championships. After he had become at the European Championships in 1993 in Stein an der Enns and sixth at the 1994 World Cup in Gsies ninth, he celebrated his first major success at the European Championships in 1995 in Kandalakscha by winning the silver medal behind compatriot Manfred graves. Once in Oberperfuss fifth at the European Championships in 1997 and he remained in the World Cup 1996 in Moos in Passeier sixth place without a medal he won at the 1998 World Cup in Rautavaara back a silver medal - at the same time with Anton Blasbichler. At the World Championship 2000 in Olang he finished seventh.

In the World Cup Gruber achieved its best results in the second half of the 1990s. In the 1995/1996 season he scored his first podium finishes and came in third place in the World Cup. In the 1996/1997 season he finished all six World Cup races on the podium and celebrated in Szczyrk and Dobbiaco his first two victories. He reached the second place in the overall World Cup and thus its best overall ranking behind Anton Blasbichler. Two wins and two second places he succeeded in the 1997/1998 season, which he finished third in the World Cup. The last World Cup victory was on January 17, 1999 in Bad Goisern. With a further three podiums he was third overall in the 1998/1999 season. In the coming years, Gruber came in the World Cup no longer approached these results. The final podium place he succeeded on January 7, 2001 second place in Unterammergau. A little later in 2001 he was fourth in the single-seater and together with Renate Gietl, Thomas Graf and Michael Graf third in the inaugural team competition at the World Championships. After the 2001/2002 season, he finished his career.

Gruber came through his profession as an architect - he was involved in the construction of sports venues in Brazil - the Brazilian Ice Sports Federation in contact and was at the Olympic Winter Games 2006 Team Manager of the Brazilian bobsled team.
