Martyr (Band)

Martyr is a progressive death metal band that was founded in 1994 in Trois -Rivières in Quebec, Canada by François and Daniel Mongrain.

Band History

Martyr was founded in 1994 by the brothers François ( vocals, bass ) and Daniel Mongrain (vocals, guitar ) and Stephane Belanger (drums) and Pier -Luc Lampron. In September 1995, the demo was released Ostrogoth. In May 1997, the debut album Hopeless Hopes was taken. After the recordings Patrice Hamelin joined as the new drummer for the group. End of the year Hopeless Hopes appeared then as in-house production.

In 1999 followed the album Warp Zone on an independent label. The album was produced by Pierre Rémillard to hear as a guest vocalist Luc Lemay Gorguts. 2001 appearance in Rouyn was recorded and released as a live album entitled Extracting the Core on the label Skyscraper Music. 2002 Martin Carbonneau joined them as a guitarist. Between 2003 and 2005 Martyr recorded the album Feeding the Abscess, which, however, only in 2006 on Galy Records, the new record label Martyr, appeared. Jean -Yves " Blacky " Thériault Voivod can be heard on a cover version of his old group. At the same time, the first two albums have been remastered and re-released.

2008 a DVD was released titled Havoc in Quebec City.

Daniel Mongrain also appeared as a guitarist in Capharnaum and Gorguts, as well as a live musician Voivod. His brother François Mongrain is the bass player of the Ex Deo project. He was also a session member Kataklysm.

Style

Their music is reminiscent stylistically to bands like Cynic and Death and is characterized by challenging arrangements. The texts of the songs are in English, although the band from a francophone province in Canada comes from.
