Masaru Sato

Masaru Satō (Japanese佐藤 胜, Masaru Satō; * May 29, 1928 in Rumoi, † December 5, 1999 in Tokyo ) was a Japanese film composer.

Satō began in the early 1950s with the writing of film scores as an assistant by Fumio Hayasaka. After his death in 1955, he took over his orders for Akira Kurosawa's Record of a life and Kenji Mizoguchi's The Samurai clan of Taira. So that he could sign a contract with the company Toho, for Satō over 200 films musically annotated and worked until his death.

He is best known for his work for some Godzilla movies as Godzilla returns (his first self-responsible Score), Frankenstein and the monster from the sea or Frankenstein's monster hunt Godzillas son. He was also, inter alia, responsible for the compositions to Irezumi, Yojimbo and The Shadow of the Shogun. His work processed western influences and light jazz arrangements.

Satō was twelve times nominated for the Japanese Academy Award and won him four times.
