Matt Stetten is a municipality in the Bern-Mittelland administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland.

Geography

Matt Stetten is on 516 m above sea level. Level, 10 km north- northeast of the capital of the canton of Bern ( straight line ). Population

With 586 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Mattstetten one of the smaller municipalities in the canton of Bern. Economy

Matt Stetten was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Even today, the farming, fruit growing and dairy farming and forestry have an important place in the economic structure of the population. Traffic

History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1201 under the name Mahtstetten. Later, the names Mattstetin ( 1231 ) and Matstetten published ( 1257 ).

Since the Middle Ages Mattstetten formed its own little rule, which was under the suzerainty of the Counts of Kyburg. The Lords of Mattstetten held the lower courts until 1426, after which there were several changes of ownership. Under Bernese sovereignty (since 1406) the village was assigned to the district court Zollikofen. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798 ) Matt Stetten was during the Helvetic Republic to the district Zollikofen and from 1803 to Oberamt Mrs. Fountain, received the status of an office district with the new cantonal constitution of 1831. The village does not have its own church, it belongs to the parish Jegenstorf - Urtenen.

Attractions

With its farmhouses of the Bernese country style from the 18th and 19th centuries Mattstetten has retained a character which is of national importance. In the village square there is a fountain with limestone obelisk in 1780.
