Stettlen

Stettlen is a municipality in the Bern-Mittelland administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland.

Geography

Stettlen is located in the Bern region east of the Swiss city of Bern in Worblental. Nestled in the valley between the Worble Bantiger and Dentenberg the community includes, but all around an attractive south-facing slope as a prime residential area and most beautiful recreation area. The parish includes the villages Stettlen and Deisswil.

The regional Bern-Solothurn RBS leads in less than 20 minutes from the stations Stettlen and Deisswil to Berne Railway Station.

North of Stettlen in the adjacent municipality Bolligen the collection Bantiger located ( 947 m asl ). The local transmission tower Swisscom supplies the region with nearby radio and television programs, he also offers a good view of the panorama of Jura, Swiss Plateau and the Alps.

History

The place name Stettlen is to be understood as diminutive to the Old High German noun " Stat " and means "little place ", " cookies ". In place names Deisswil probably hides the personal name of a clan chief, there had also won in the 1st millennium, with Roden and Schwenden new farmland.

Documented Stettlen is first mentioned in 1146 as Stetelon, and before the year 1200, the place came under the castle law of the young city of Bern.

From a schoolmaster in Stettlen is the first time in 1620 and the speech of a school construction in 1728. The number of students is 1780 given as 80 to 90. In the second half of the 18th century, most families lived directly from the ground return. Crafts and trades were held in low esteem.
