Mazda 767

The Mazda 767 was a race car prototype which was built for Mazdaspeed for use in the 24 -hour Le Mans race in the IMSA GTP class. The 767 replaced the 757 in 1988 and had the improved four - rotor Wankel engine, Mazda type 13J, the (442 kW) made almost 600 bhp.

Two 767 in 1988 operated in 24 - hour race at Le Mans and occupied the 17th and the 19th place overall. The single 757 from the previous year, which also launched, in 15th. In the All Japan Sports Prototype Championship Mazda this time was fourth in the constructors' championship.

For the 1989 season the revised Mazda 767 to Mazda 767B and tested it at the beginning of the 24- hour race at Daytona, where he finished 5th overall. Later in the season Mazda returned to Le Mans and reported two 767B and an older 767, the two 767B occupied the 7th and the 9th place overall, while the single 767 was twelfth. In the JSPC but the results were disappointing and Mazda was only fifth.

1990 was a single 767B has been reported together with the two newer 787 for the 24- hour race at Le Mans and finished the race as the only Mazda, even if only on the 20th place in the overall standings.
