Measurement tower

A measurement tower is a free standing tower or guyed mast, the measuring instruments with meteorological instruments, such as thermometers and anemometers carries. Measurement towers are an essential component of rocket launch sites, because you have to know the exact wind conditions for carrying out a rocket launch. Also in the vicinity of some ( not all) nuclear power plants ( as in Grafenrheinfeld ) there are measurement towers. They are used here to monitor the air radioactivity. Whether such a tower is required or not depends on regulatory requirements.

There are also measuring meteorological towers for basic research. Frequently this but most commonly used for reasons of cost appropriate transmission towers or transmission towers.

In addition to measuring towers, which are equipped with meteorological instruments, there are also measuring towers for measurement of the radiation pattern of antennas. In the wind energy industry wind measurement masts are used to the wind speeds at different heights above the ground to identify and determine the real wind conditions over a period of time at the site before the construction of wind turbines.
