Merrill McPeak

Merrill McPeak Anthony ( born January 9, 1936 in Santa Rosa, California ) is a retired American general in the U.S. Air Force, who was most recently Chief of Staff of the Air Force and at the same time for a short time reigning U.S. Secretary of the Air Force.

Life

After attending the High School of Grants Pass, he studied economics at San Diego State College and graduated in 1957 with a Bachelor of Arts (BA Economics) from.

He then joined the Air Force in 1957 and completed during his military service, a postgraduate degree in International Relations at the George Washington University, from which he graduated in 1974 with a Master of Arts (MA International Relations ). During his military service, he was promoted to General and in 1987 commander of the Twelfth Air Force at Davis - Monthan Air Force Base before it was between 1988 and 1990 Supreme Commander ( Commander -in- Chief ) of the Pacific Air Forces ( PACAF ).

Last General McPeak was born on October 30, Chief of Staff of the Air Force in 1990 and served as such until his retirement on 25 October 1994 the highest-ranking officer in the U.S. Air Force. McPeak, who was also involved in the Council on Foreign Relations, was originally a member of the Republican Party, but resigned at the beginning of the Iraq War, the Democratic Party. He was also one of the signatories of Global Zero, an application launched in December 2008 initiative, which has a total nuclear disarmament goal worldwide. This will be achieved through a gradual reduction of nuclear weapons and an accompanying arms control.
