Minamiminowa (Nagano)

Minamiminowa (Japanese南 箕 轮 村, -mura ) is a village in the administrative district kamiina the southern center of Nagano Prefecture on the main Japanese island of Honshu.

Geography

The territory of the village consists of two parts separated by the city Ina. The western part is the high mountains to the 2296 meter high Kyōgatake on the border with Tatsuno and Shiojiri. The eastern part as the actual village is located in the Ina Basin on the banks of the River Tenryu. To the north lies the community Minowa.

History

The municipality was created in 1875 by the merger Minamiminowa six smaller villages and was not yet affected by a further local government reform. The village is twinned with Izu in Shizuoka Prefecture. In Minamiminowa is the Faculty of Agriculture Shinshu University.
