Minucciano

Minucciano is a town with 2186 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Lucca in Tuscany.

Geography

The site covers about 57 km ². It is located about 45 km north- west of Lucca and 90 km northwest of Florence in the upper right of the Serchio Garfagnanagebirge on the border with the province of Modena. The municipality is the highest mountain in Tuscany, Monte Pisanino. Parts of the municipality is part of the National Park of the Apuan Alps.

The districts include Agliano, Albiano Antognano, Canepaia, Carpinelli, Castagnola, Foresto Gorfigliano, Gramolazzo, Metra, Pieve San Lorenzo Pugliano, Sermezzana and Verrucolette.

The neighboring municipalities are Camporgiano, Casola in Lunigiana (MS ), Fivizzano (MS ), Giuncugnano, Massa (MS ), Piazza al Serchio and Vagli Sotto.

History

The main town Minucciano is the result of a medieval fortress, are obtained from the still a tower and parts of the wall.

Economy

The main industry is now the marble mining, which exists on a large scale since the 20th century. Previously, agriculture was mainly operated.
