Morane-Saulnier Epervier

The Morane- Saulnier MS.1500 Epervier is a COIN and reconnaissance aircraft of the French manufacturer Morane- Saulnier.

History and construction

The Epervier was developed in response to a request of the French Air Force for use in the Algerian war. The plane is a two-seat low-wing monoplane with tandem seats, a non-retractable spur wheel chassis and is powered by a 520 kW payable turboprop Turbomeca Bastan. The cockpit was before the wings in order to ensure a good view to the front and downwards. Additionally, the machine to protect the crew was lightly armored ground before shelling. The prototype first flew on 12 May 1958, and was powered by a 300 -kW Turbomeca Marcadau propeller turbine. The Turbomeca Bastan - turbine of the planned production version was later incorporated in the prototype. A second prototype was still built, but the aircraft did not go due to the developments in Algeria in series.
