Morane-Saulnier MS.225

The Morane- Saulnier MS.225 was a French all-metal fighter of 1932. Structure basis of this first French hunter with kompressorunterstütztem radial engine was the Nieuport Delage - 629

History

The machine was unveiled at the 1932 Salon de l' aéronautique aircraft exhibition in Paris for the first time and went to the successful testing immediately in series. Of the 75 aircraft produced 53 went from 1933 to the French Air Force, where they were used in the class C.1 ( monoplane ). As of February 1934 a further 16 machines were delivered to the French Navy and three machines to the Chinese Air Force. At the beginning of World War II still about 20 machines were operational until mid-1940, the last machines were scrapped.

Properties

The all-metal high-wing monoplane with slightly swept wings and compared with the predecessor model MS.224.01 reinforced hull was driven in the original version of a Gnome 9Krsd radial engine with a supercharger. The non- retractable tail wheel landing gear with wheels clad had a strikingly large track width.

Use

The MS.225 were stationed at the 7th Fighter Squadron ( escadre ) in Dijon and in two seasons at the 42nd Squadron in Reims. 1936/37, it was gradually withdrawn from the front row of fighter planes. The Navy squadron 3C1 at the Marignane using the aircraft until 1936, after which it was delivered to the hunt group 11/8. Finally, the flight school in Salon-de -Provence five machines received.
