Geography
Möttingen lies in the region of Augsburg formed by meteorite impact Ries, about 7 km southeast of Nördlingen. The trout stream runs through the town and opens into the running just north of Eger.
Community members are Appetshofen, Balgheim, Enkingen, Kleinsorheim, Lierheim and Möttingen. There are the districts Appetshofen, Balgheim, Enkingen, Kleinsorheim and Möttingen.
History
In the 12th century had the local nobility, the Counts of Oettingen, the nobles of Lierheim, the monasteries Kaisheim and rooms as well as the Lords of Woellwarth land in the village. 1323 sold the Counts of Oettingen their property along with the Bailiwick and the patronage of the German Order. The German Order - Landcommanderij Ellingen divided after the village rule with the Counts of Oettingen- Wallerstein, the further held the country's sovereignty. Möttingen himself was a Protestant since the Reformation parish village. The county Oettingen belonged to the Swabian kingdom circle while the Deutschordensballei francs was counted the Frankish kingdom circle. Both legal institution of the place were 1805/ 06 with intermediaries. With the Act of Confederation in 1806 the place came to the Kingdom of Bavaria. With the congregation of 1818 the current municipality was formed.
Incorporations
On January 1, 1975, the formerly independent communities Appetshofen, Enkingen and Kleinsorheim eingemeinden left voluntarily in the course of municipal reform. On 1 May 1978, the municipality Balgheim was added.

The municipal council of Möttingen since the local elections on March 2, 2008 belong to ( turnout 79.5 % ) next to the mayor 14 council members, including a woman.

In 2011, the municipal tax revenue amounted to € 1,718,000, of which € 559,000 ( net) trade tax revenue.

Economy
2011, there were according to official statistics in the manufacturing sector and 158 in the area of trade and transport 89 persons work at the workplace. Social insurance contributions at residence, there were 966 in the manufacturing sector, there were two, in the construction of seven plants. In 2010 there were also 92 farms with an agricultural area of a total of 2759 hectares, of which 2312 ha of arable land and 439 ha of permanent grassland.
Traffic
By Möttingen the main road leads 25 of Nördlingen to Donauwörth. Road St. in 2221 and the county roads 10 and DON DON 11 go in town on it.
The Ries Railway Aalen - Donauwörth with its own breakpoint runs north adjacent.
Education
In 2012, there were three kindergartens with 110 seats and a total of 81 children in care as well as an elementary school for special education with 96 students who were taught by 15 teachers.
