The New Metical (plural Meticais ) is the currency of the Republic of Mozambique in East Africa. A New Metical is divided into 100 centavos. The ISO code is MZN.

The New Metical circulates in notes 20, 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1000 Meticais, all carrying the portrait of the first president Samora Machel. Coins are in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 20 and 50 centavos and 1, 2, 5 and 10 Meticais.

On 1 July 2006, the New Metical was introduced, which corresponds to 1000 old Meticais ( ISO 4217 code MZM). The old cash retained its validity until the end of 2006 and could be exchanged at the central bank until 2012.

The old Metical had coins in the denomination value to 1, 2 ½, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 500, 1000 and 5000 Meticais, also banknotes of 500, 1,000, 5,000, 10,000, 20,000, 50,000, 100,000, 200,000 and 500,000 Meticais.
