The MsHK Žilina is a was established in 1925 as ŠK Žilina Hockey club from the city of Žilina in Slovakia. He plays in the Slovak Slovnaft extra- league.

History

The Hockey Department of Žilina Športový club was founded on 25 January 1925. In the following years these took part in regional competitions, 1931 also at Tatra Cup. 1949 won a junior team of the club championship for his age group. In 1950, the sport of ice hockey in Czechoslovakia was reorganized and Žilina played in a regional league. 1951 reached the summit in the national league. At the end of the season 1951/52, Iskra Slovena Žilina occupied only the bottom of Group C. A year later, the club was relegated again in the second division. Later followed the descent to the third tier, before 1957, the resurgence in the second division succeeded. 1960/61 was repeated the action with waste and direct resurgence.

At the end of the season 1964/65 Jednota Žilina won Group D of the second division and qualified for the rise of games in the first league. In these, however, only Jednota occupied the last place. In the following two decades ZVL Zilina played within the first SNHL, de Slovak part of the second division, and occupied mostly medium-to- back placements.

1983, the club was relegated to the third, regional, league, but managed a year later to return to the first SNHL. Again, a year later ZVL reached only the last in the league and got off again. With the division of Czechoslovakia into two independent states, a new league system was introduced in Slovakia. The now renamed in HK VTJ Žilina club was taken the first division to the second division. In 1999, the HK SKP Žilina for the first time to climb games for the Slovakian Extraliga part, but failed as sixth -placed. Two years later, at the end of the season 2000/ 01, Žilina was accepted as a master of the first league directly in the Extraliga, in the MsHK plays since then.

The 2006 team won the league championship and, therefore, increased in 2006 /07 part of the IIHF European Champions Cup. They took second place the Ragulin Division.

Among the former players include Ivan Droppa, Stanislav Gron, Michal Hreus and Ronald Petrovický who also played in the NHL or the DEL. In addition to Agris Saviels a current Latvian national team, who played in the 2006/07 season in Žilina.
