History

In today's field of Nara Prefecture since antiquity lies the province of Yamato.

It is certain that Yamato in the early history of Japan was a political center and the 3rd and 4th century at the foot of Mount Miwa, there was a political power which united a large part of Japan. However, there are few documents from this period.

In the Meiji Restoration of 1868 was a first Nara Prefecture in advance of the Tokugawa -controlled areas ( Bakuryō ) in the province of Yamato. The prefecture has been extended to briefly converted into 15 prefectures principalities in the province of Yamato at the abolition of principalities in 1871 and thereafter corresponded essentially its present area, which covers the entire province of Yamato. The first Nara Prefecture existed until 1876, when it became part of the Sakai Prefecture; this in turn was incorporated in 1881 in the prefecture of Osaka. In 1887, the Nara Prefecture was again separated and is since then without significant territorial modification. The first prefecture Parliament opened its first session in 1888 Todai -ji.
