Narciso Campero Province

Narciso Campero (short: Campero ) is one of sixteen provinces in the southeastern part of the Bolivian department of Cochabamba.

Location

The province lies between the Bolivian Cordillera Oriental and the Cordillera Central. It is bounded on the northwest by the province Mizque, on the southwest by the Potosí Department in the south of the department of Chuquisaca, on the east by the department of Santa Cruz, and to the north by the province of Carrasco.

The province extends from about 17 ° 50 'and 18 ° 40' south latitude and 64 ° 45 'and 65 ° 48 ' west longitude, their extent from west to east and from north to south is about 75 km, respectively.

Population

The population of the province Campero has risen in the past two decades by about one-seventh, but in the last decade has been declining:

46.1 percent of the population are younger than 15 years, the literacy rate in the province is 65.5 percent. (1992)

60.1 percent of the population speak Spanish, 82.3 percent speak Quechua, Aymara and 0.4 percent. (1992)

88.8 percent of the population have no access to electricity, 88.6 percent have no sanitary facilities (1992).

92.3 percent of the population are Catholics, 5.8 percent are Protestant (1992).

Structure

The Campero Province is divided into three Municipalities:

  • Municipio Aiquile - 29 556 inhabitants ( 2005)
  • Municipio Omereque - 6,744 inhabitants
  • Municipio Pasorapa - 4,686 inhabitants
