The National Assembly (Slovenian Državni zbor ) is the first chamber of the Slovenian Parliament.

Function of the National Assembly

The National Assembly has 90 seats and is elected by popular vote for a term of four years. The second chamber is the Council of State ( Državni svet ). Under the constitution, the recognized ethnic minorities ( Italians and Hungarians ) are entitled to one Deputy in the National Assembly. This minority MPs on issues that relate exclusively to their ethnic groups, an absolute veto. For a place in the National Assembly, the four- percent threshold applies.

The Government must enjoy the confidence continually the National Assembly. The National Assembly elects the prime minister on the recommendation of the President and the Ministers on the proposal of the Prime Minister.
