Nelson County (Virginia)

Nelson County is a county located in the state of Virginia in the United States. In 2000, the County had 14,445 inhabitants and a population density of 12 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Lovingston.

Geography

Nelson County is located in west-central Virginia and has an area of ​​1228 square kilometers, of which five square miles are water. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Albemarle County, Buckingham County, Appomattox County, Amherst County, Rockbridge County and Augusta County.

History

Made it in 1807 from parts of Amherst County. It was named for Thomas Nelson, Jr., a governor of Virginia.
