Němčany

Němčany ( German Niemtschan ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic. It is located about four kilometers northeast of Slavkov and belongs to Okres Vyškov.

Geography

Němčany is located in the western foothills of Litenčická pahorkatina in the valley of the brook Němčanský creek. To the north rises the højde ( Heath, 320 m), in the southeast of Vinohrad ( 336 m ) west of the Urban ( 360 m) and in the northwest the Vinohrady and the Shrine Lutršték.

Neighboring towns are Kroužek, Čechyně and Podbřežice in the north, Dražovice in the northeast, Letonice, Černčín and Bučovice the east, Marefy and Křižanovice the southeast, Hodějice in the south, Stara Cihelna and Slavkov in the southwest and Velešovice, Slavíkovice, Krouzecky Dvůr and Lutršték in northwest.

History

Archaeological finds a tomb from the Bronze Age and remains of a Celtic settlement occupy a prehistoric settlement in the area.

The first written mention of the village was in 1497, when Peter gave Earl of St. Georgen- Bösing ( Petr Hrabě od Sv. Jura Pezinku z ) the rule of Austerlitz his wife Sophie von Waldstein. The farm Nemczan was probably founded by the German knights. Since 1509 the village belonged to the Counts of Kaunitz. In the 16th century Reformation Anabaptists settled. In Němčany died in 1570, Anabaptist poet Christoph headdresses, called Schiffmann. During the Thirty Years' War, the village was deserted and was temporarily without form completely. At the beginning of the 19th century, a statue of Mary and a small chapel was built on an allegedly miraculous spring at the farm Lotter web. Until the mid-19th century Němčany always remained the rule Austerlitz and the Count Kaunitz submissive.

After the abolition of patrimonial Němčany formed in 1850 a municipality in the district team Wischau. During the German War, the village was plundered in 1866 and introduced the cholera. In 1900 there were in the village a brickyard, a bathroom and a mineral water factory. A little later, took a water mill on the operation.

Between 1949 and 1959 Němčany belonged to Okres Austerlitz and came to its repeal back to Okres Vyškov.

Sons and daughters of the town

  • Josef Knesl (1899-1945), the vet and resistance fighter against the Nazis died in Mauthausen concentration camp, 1999, he posthumously received the honorary citizenship
