Neukamerun

As Neukamerun an area in central Africa has been designated, assigned as a result of the Agadir crisis by the so- Morocco - Congo Agreement of 4 November 1911 by France as compensation for colonial activities in Morocco to the German Empire and affiliated to the German colony of Cameroon. Aim of German policy was to obtain direct access to the navigable Congo and, to gain in terms of an expected division of the Belgian Congo to other European colonial powers, a favorable position to round out the German colonial possessions in Middle Africa. In this context, the term " Deutsch-Congo/Kongo " was used.

In the Treaty of Versailles in 1919 determined that Neukamerun again went without replacement under French colonial rule in French Equatorial Africa.

Today, the areas Neukameruns belong to Gabon, the Republic of Congo, the Central African Republic and Chad.

Territory and territorial organization

France ceded parts of its colony of French Equatorial Africa from to Germany. Located on the east and south sides of the former German colony of Cameroon area was 295,000 km ². France at the same time received the so-called " duckbill " was a 12,000 km ² area between Logone and Chari in northeastern Cameroon, from Germany. The German New Acquisitions of this replacement were referred to as Neukamerun, sometimes compared to round out of Germany by the French Alsace -Lorraine as " Congolese Alsace ".

The transfer to German administrative bodies ( military or civil administration ) was performed in several steps. Under German sovereignty, the area was divided into seven autonomous districts and three affiliated to existing districts postal areas:

  • District Iwindo ( with parts of Altbezirks Ebolowa united, Office: Akoafim )
  • Post Eta area (for Altbezirk Lomié )
  • Post Ngoila area (for Altbezirk Jukaduma )
  • District sub- Ssanga (headquarters: Ikelemba )
  • District Central Ssanga - Lobaye (headquarters: Mbaiki )
  • District of Upper - Ssanga - Uham (headquarters: Carnot )
  • District of Upper - Logone (headquarters: Bumo )
  • Post Lere area ( for Residentur Garua )

  • A place in the circle in the Prussian province of Posen Kolmar was temporarily the name.
  • New Cameroon is called a settlement on Zeesener lake in King Wusterhausen.
