Niederweis

Niederweis is a municipality in the district of Bitburg -Prüm, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Irrel.

Geography

Niederweis located on the edge of the South Eifel Nature Park. The municipality also includes the residential places Eichelhof, Höhjunk (zip code 54298 ), Mill and Forest house.

History

A prehistoric settlement of the district around the present Niederweis is through weapons, Vascular and grave finds occupied as a Roman settlement.

In the founding years of the Abbey of Echternach a Martheus the Abbey bequeathed a piece of land between " Wys " and Enghien. Niederweis had a station on the Nims Sauer Valley Railway Bitburg- Erdorf - Irrel - Hedgehog. The passenger traffic of the route was discontinued in the northern section, in which Niederweis was in 1969, freight traffic in 1988; the tracks were torn down in the following years. The station building had been previously sold by the German Federal Railroad. The train station is located just outside of the local situation of Niederweis, on the boundary Alsdorf. The station was intended for the operation of the two localities. ( A in the 1950s planned for the community Alsdorf breakpoint was never realized. )
