Nims (river)

The Nims in good corners in February 2004

The Nims is a good 61 km long river in the southern Eifel ( district of Bitburg -Prüm ). It rises in Weinheim (east of Prüm ), then runs in a southwesterly direction through the idyllic valley of the same and opens below Irrel in the Prüm.

Probably the oldest written mention of the river under the name Nimisa dates from the year 798 or 799 ( " 31 year of the reign of Charles the Great").

Well known is the Nims for the Eifel mountain stream trout, the best thrives due to low pH and cold water.

The Nims flows through the towns of:

By Nimstal ran the now- operated, partly degraded Nims Sauer Valley Railway. Between Bickendorf and Seffern spans the 781 m long Nimstalbrücke the Federal Highway 60, the Valley of the Nims.
