Bickendorf

Bickendorf is a municipality in the district of Bitburg -Prüm, in Rhineland -Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Bitburg -Land and is located in the south Eifel, on the middle reaches of Nims.

Location

The municipality is located in Bickendorf Nimstal about 8 km north of the county town of Bitburg. The district covers 549 ha The nearest major town is Knight village, the nearest town is Bitburg.

History

The name goes back to the time of the Frankish conquest in the 8th century. First mention was " Bickendorf " in the year 832 in a deed of the monastery of Echternach. From the 13th century until the late 18th century, the place was in the Luxembourg rule.

Former post

Ever since the October 16, 1596 consisted in Bickendorf a post office at the Netherlands postal route from Brussels Arzfeld, Bins field and Lieser to Rheinhausen, Augsburg, Innsbruck and Italy, as evidenced by the signed by the postmaster Joetz postal order. This post office has already been canceled 1680/81 due to the massive price shifts, including the cities of Luxembourg and Trier.

Parish council

The local council in Bickendorf consists of eight council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 in a proportional representation, and the honorary mayor as chairman. The eight seats on the council are divided into two groups of voters in the previous election in 2004, a majority vote was held.

Economy and infrastructure

The place has a daycare center, a primary school with a community and gym and a football pitch, a Catholic. Parish church ( St. Martin), two playgrounds, a village square, a barbecue hut and a chapel.

Settled businesses are an agricultural machinery business and a veterinarian.

A bus stop is serviced several times a day from the RMV buses. The nearest train station is Bitburg- Erdorf at the Eifel line between Cologne and Trier.

Attractions

Worth seeing are the so-called "castle" Bickendorf, a manor house with remarkable garden from the mid-18th century and the baroque altar of the parish church of St. Martin. On the grounds of the cemetery stands a war memorial. The Nimsbrücke of 1920 of red sandstone and six -way crosses, including two of 1623 and 1626, complement the heritage structures worthy.

The center " Castle Road " is designated as conservation zone.

Bickendorf has several times in the " Our village has a future " competition successfully.
