NK Domžale

Nogometni club Domžale is a Slovenian football club from Domžale.

History

The club was founded in 1921 under the name DISK Domzale and renamed in 1935 in NK Domžale.

After the dissolution of Yugoslavia in 1991, the club was one of the 21 founding members of the first Slovenian League, had to finish the season as a table Nineteenth but descend. Then they played for years in the second division, until the end of season 1997/98 qualified you to be a third party for the play-offs against set Vevce Ljubljana, which was decided in a 1-1 draw and a 3-1 victory.

In the first season as a top-flight club managed an eighth place, followed by a ninth place in 1999/2000. In 2001, they escaped relegation than 10, however, ended the season 2001/ 02 as Table and was relegated to the House. There, however, it became an instant champion and returned to the excellence.

With five points behind the relegation zone NK Domžale finished his first season after return. 2004/ 05 could qualify fifth for the championship finals and finished surprising runner-up behind ND Gorica. In 2005 /06 achieved the runner-up, after you had come with ND Gorica a hard battle and end up missing two points. International succeeded in the 2005/06 season surprising the feed in the first qualifying round of the UEFA Cup, in which you failed at VfB Stuttgart.

In the 2006/07 season the club was first Slovenian champion and he could even defend the title in the following season. Three years later succeeded to the club for the first time, the national cup competition to decide for themselves.

Trivia

In the UEFA Cup 2005/ 06 the club failed in the German Bundesliga club VfB Stuttgart. Both clubs were a season later - has always acted as an outsider - in their respective leagues national champion.
