History
The first written record of the village took place in the year 812 as the Office of the Prince-Bishopric of Fulda in favor of Archduke Ferdinand of Orange in 1803 secularized, it fell in 1806 as part of the province de Fulde to France ( from 1810 a department of the Grand Duchy of Frankfurt of the Prince Primate von Dalberg ) and was awarded at the 1815 Congress of Vienna Austria. In the course of administrative reform in Bavaria, was born with the congregation of 1818, the current community.

The population is predominantly Catholic. Oberleichtersbach is the seat of the Roman Catholic parish of St. Peter and Paul, which is part of the Deanery of the Diocese of Würzburg mutton castle. In the district of Breitenbach, the branch church is Holy Family, in Modlos the Branch Church of St. James the Greater. In sub- Light Bach there is a chapel.

On 1 May 1978, the formerly independent municipalities of Breitenbach, Mitgenfeld, Modlos and sub- Light Bach were incorporated.

Coat of arms

Coat of Arms History: Oberleichtersbach was first mentioned in 812 and belonged to the end of the Old Kingdom in 1803 to the Bishopric of Fulda. The Prince Abbot Placidus von Droste (1678 - 1700) was the parish church of St. Peter and Paul build and install a coat of arms over the portal in which the arms of the abbey of Fulda ( fuldische the cross) and the crest of the Fürstabts Droste are united. The community chose these two coat of arms symbols for their coat of arms. The coat of arms was granted by the government of Lower Franconia on December 5, 1980
Attractions
The Branch Church Holy Family in the district of Breitenbach, built 1905-1906, is essentially neo-Gothic, but has especially in the preserved original furnishings and decoration of the time it was built, elements of Art Nouveau.
The steel observation tower at the 660 -meter three-position Zberg allows a view far into neighboring Hesse.
