Geography
Geographical location
The village is situated on the southern slopes of the Rhön in the Valley of Schondra, about 22 kilometers northwest of the town of Bad Kissingen. In the east, the A 7 motorway runs through the municipality.

Name
Etymology
It has its name from the eponymous Schondra, the market town by left border river Schondra flowing to the Franconian Saale in Gräfendorf.

History
Schondra was first mentioned in 812. The place was owned by the monastery of Fulda. From the 15th century was Schondra seat of a court.
In its present extent of the community exists since 1 May 1978, when the communities Schönderling and singing Rain were incorporated by Schondra as part of the municipal reorganization in Bavaria.
Religions
The population is predominantly Catholic. In the field of political community is the Roman Catholic parish of St. Anna Schondra that belongs to the deanery mutton castle of the Bishopric of Würzburg. In the district Schönderling is the branch church of St. Joseph in the Rain Singing Branch Church of St. Mary of Fatima. In Schildeck there is a chapel.

Blazon: In red to a lowered silver wave beams side by side a silver scutellum, in a black deeds cross and a golden crown provost.
Coat of Arms History: The existing market today Schondra was created in 1978 by merging the formerly independent communities Schondra, Schönderling and Singing Rain. All parts of municipalities were until 1803 in the territory of the Prince- pin Fulda. Administratively, belonged to Schondra fuldischen Oberamt Brückenau, while the districts Schönderling and singing Rain were managed by the monastery provost Thulba. In the coat of arms have the fuldische cross in the small sign and the golden crown provost attention to these relations of domination. The silver wave beam is reference to the location of the village on the river Schondra. The silver and red are the colors of Franconia.
