Odd Eriksen

Odd Eriksen ( born March 11, 1955 in Sandnessjøen ) is a Norwegian politician of the Labour Party (Ap).

Eriksen is originally from Dønna. His professional career he started at Elkem Aluminium in lounges and bar. From 1986 to 1990 he was chairman of the local union and led, among others, the strike in 1986 during the lockout. From 1993 to 2001 he was deputy Storting. From 2003 to 2005 he was chairman of the Workers' Party in Nordland.

On 17 October 2005, he was appointed to the Economic Development and Trade Minister in the government of Jens Stoltenberg II, but resigned on 29 September 2006 and was replaced by Dag Terje Andersen. On 6 December 2006 he was appointed Chairman of the Fylkeparlaments of Nordland.

Eriksen became famous when he in 2004 on a flight of Kato Air overcame an air pirate and thus prevented a crash near Bodo. He was awarded the Polaris Award of the Federation of the pilot organizations ( IFALPA ).
