Odo Josef Struger

Odo Josef Struger (* 1931 in Unterloibl, Ferlach, Carinthia ); † December 8, 1998 in Cleveland (Ohio ) was an engineer and inventor who instrumental in the development of the first programmable logic controllers ( PLC) was involved.

Life

Struger went in the 1950s in the United States. In his profession he was a pioneer of industrial electronics, when he was with the U.S. Allen-Bradley Company, which later became the Rockwell Automation, active from 1958 to 1997. He was reputed "father" of Allen- Bradley's Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) to be ( = PLC). Struger brought it to his life span to about 50 inventions.

At the same time as he also Richard Morley (Modicon ) developed one of the first PLC devices. Struger his doctorate in 1970 at the Technical University of Vienna.

Honors

Struger was an honorary citizen of Ferlach. In 1996 he received the Prometheus Award in the USA. The Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, Illinois, took him into the Hall of Fame for automation.
