Oelsberg

Oelsberg is a municipality in the Rhein- Lahn-Kreis in Rhineland- Palatinate. It belongs to the municipality Nastaetten.

Geography

Oelsberg located in a small tributary of the Millstream in the north-western Taunus mountains.

History

As Ulsbure the place name is first documented in 1260. After various modifications can be found starting around 1720, the current notation. The origin of the place name is variously interpreted as a stream name or a mountain of Uhle.

Oelsberg belonged since the mid-13th century to " Vierherrischen " area on the facilities. It was from 1567 under the sovereignty of Hessen- Rhein Rock, from 1583 of Hesse-Cassel, Hesse-Darmstadt from 1626 by 1647, and came to the side Kassel Hessen- Rhein rock -Rotenburg. After 1794 French occupied the place came in 1816 to the Duchy of Nassau was annexed in 1866 by Prussia.

Since 1947 Oelsberg is part of the then newly created state of Rhineland- Palatinate.

The local council in Oelsberg consists of twelve council members, who were elected at the municipal election held on 7 June 2009 by majority vote, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

The coat of arms description reads: " Split with right flank 1/3: 2/ 3, right in gold a green ear, left in green a sedentary, herschauende, silver owl ".
