Oļegs Sorokins
Oļegs Sorokin ( born January 4, 1974 in Riga, Latvian SSR) is a Latvian ice hockey player who is since October 2010 the WSV Sterzing Broncos from the Italian Serie A2 under contract.
Career
Oļegs Sorokin began his career as a hockey player in his hometown at HK Pārdaugava Riga, for by 1995 he was active from 1991 in the Latvian Hockey League and the Russian Super League. Then the defender spent one season with the Juniors Riga in the East European Hockey League. During the 1996/97 season he was exclusively in North America under contract, where it ran aground on the Jacksonville Lizard Kings and Roanoke Express in the East Coast Hockey League, as well as the Quad City Mallards and Utica Blizzard of the Colonial Hockey League. The summer break before he bridged at the Empire State Cobras from the professional inline hockey league Roller Hockey International.
After Sorokin had started the 1997/98 season with his former club Juniors Riga in the EEHL, he played in the next three years for the Finnish Team Hermes Kokkola and Vaasan Sport in the then still second-class I divisioona. There was ever a season at HC Slovan Bratislava in the Slovak Extraliga and Molot - Prikamye Perm in the Russian Super League. The 2002/03 season began Sorokin at HK Riga 2000, before he ran aground in the following three seasons for Ässät Pori of the Finnish SM- liiga. The 2005/06 season began again at the Lette HK Riga 2000 in which he competed in the Belarusian Extraliga. After only 15 games in which he scored a goal and three more prepared, he signed with EHC Black Wings Linz, for in the Austrian Hockey League the following year he was on the ice.
The majority of the 2006/07 season spent Sorokin at Södertälje SK in the HockeyAllsvenskan, the Swedish second division. With his club he achieved promotion to the Elitserien, but remained again for any length of time at a club and played in the 2007/08 season for Metallurg Novokuznetsk in the Russian Super League, Fribourg- Gottéron in the Swiss National League A and the Frederikshavn White Hawks in the Danish AL-Bank Ligaen. For the season 2008/ 09, the Olympian was committed from 2002 Dinamo Riga from the newly formed Kontinental Hockey League, but he also came to four inserts for its farm team, the HK Riga 2000 in the Belarusian Extraliga. In October 2010, he joined the WSV Sterzing Broncos from the Italian Serie A2.
Internationally
For Latvia Sorokin participated in the Junior C World Cup 1994 and the 2001 World Championships, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2009 in part. In addition, he was in the squad of Latvia at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City and the qualification for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver.
