Olga Scheps

Olga Scheps ( born January 4, 1986 in Moscow ) is a Russian pianist who lives in Cologne.

Life and work

The daughter of pianist and professor at the department of the Aachen University of Music and Dance Cologne, Ilya Scheps, came with her parents at the age of six years after Germany. Influenced by their musical environment she found at the age of four years of rapid access to classical piano training and won in 1999 with twelve years the Federal Competition Young Musicians Competition and in 2001 the youth plays classical music.

During her school years she began her piano studies from 1999, first as a young student in the piano class of Vassily Lobanov and belonged since 2006, the Master Class of Pavel Gililov on at the Academy of Music and Dance Cologne. Further studies led to Arie Vardi and Dmitri Bashkirov. In addition, it has for her 15th birthday important artistic impulses of Alfred Brendel. She was initially supported in 2001 by the German Music Foundation and from 2006 by the Academic Foundation of the German people with a scholarship.

At the age of fourteen she made her debut in the concert series " Junge Elite " and the Piano Concerto No. 1 Prokofiev in the Düsseldorf Tonhalle. This was followed by recitals in the concert series " Best of NRW" and "The Next Generation II " in Haren Mountain City Center Dortmund. Even abroad they occurred: various concert tours have taken her to Italy, the Netherlands, Austria, Denmark, Asia and the United States. They occurred among others, along with the Aachen Symphony Orchestra, the Lower Saxony State Orchestra, the NDR Radio Philharmonic, the Munich Symphony Orchestra, the Bonn Classical Philharmonic, the Musikkollegium Winterthur, the Romanian National Philharmonic Orchestra and the Symphony Orchestra of Warsaw.

Since her debut at the Ruhr Piano Festival in 2007, further followed by guest appearances at the Schleswig- Holstein Music Festival, the Festspiele Mecklenburg - Vorpommern, the Kissinger Sommer, Heidelberg Spring, the Summer Music days Hitzacker, the Moselle Music Festival and others. Finally she won in 2008 at the prestigious international competition Kissinger Piano Olympus in Bad Kissingen a second place.

In addition to its operations as a soloist, she is also engaged repeatedly in the field of chamber music. In different compositions here so far included the violinist Andrej Bielow, Daniel Hope and Erik Schumann, the cellist Adrian Brendel, Alban Gerhardt and Jan Vogler and the violist Nils Mönkemeyer to their partners.

She devotes a large part of their repertoire of interpretation of the music of Romanticism and especially the works of Russian composers and with great passion, especially the compositions by Frédéric Chopin. Your Chopin interpretations were doing in the arts pages of the local and national press and on radio and television stations a very positive response.

After it was previously heard on a CD recording of the Piano Festival Ruhr in 2009, she brought in 2010 her first two solo CDs out on RCA Red Seal (Sony Music). On 17 October 2010 she received for her debut CD "Chopin ", with Alice Sara Ott the ECHO Klassik 2010 as Young Artist of the Year ( Piano) at the Philharmonie Essen. In the autumn of the same year was followed by another solo album with works by Russian composers. Their latest CD " Schubert " was released in August 2012 on RCA Red Seal (Sony Music).

On 12 February 2012 she made ​​her solo debut in her adopted homeland in the Kölner Philharmonie. Furthermore followed in the same year two more concerts with the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra and the Piano Concerto No. 1 by Tchaikovsky and the Russian State Orchestra Moscow and the Piano Concerto No. 2 by Rachmaninoff in Cologne.

  • 2010: Chopin ( RCA Red Seal / Sony Music)

On the debut CD of works by Frédéric Chopin will find the famous Ballade in G minor, dance waltzes and mazurkas, nocturnes and the dreamy rarely rehearsed " Trois Nouvelles Études ". The recording was made in the Jesus - Christus-Kirche in Berlin, which is famous for its special acoustics. There are on the CD as a bonus track Chopin's Fantasie, Op 49, recorded live at the Ruhr Piano Festival 2009.

On their second CD, she devoted herself entirely to the romantic Russian piano literature and presents works by Peter Tchaikovsky, Mikhail Glinka, Balakirev Mili, Anton Arensky, Mili Balakirev, Anton Rubinstein, Nikolai Titov, Alexander Scriabin, Sergei Rachmaninoff and Anatoli Ljadow.

  • 2012: Schubert ( RCA Red Seal / Sony Music)

On her third solo album, she has devoted herself to the work of Franz Schubert. This CD presents a mix of famous masterpieces ( Impromptus and Valses Nobles ), and rarely recorded works such as the Hungarian melody and Kupelwieser Waltz. This recording was recorded as well as their Chopin recording in the Jesus - Christus-Kirche in Berlin.

  • 2014: Piano Concertos Nos. 1 & 2 ( RCA Red Seal / Sony Music)

With this album Scheps returns to works by Chopin. The two piano concertos by Chopin ( Piano Concerto No. 1, Op 11 in E Minor and Piano Concerto No. 2 in F minor, Op 21) were recorded in the version for string orchestra. She was accompanied by the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra.
