Olli Malmivaara

Olli Malmivaara ( born March 13, 1982 in Kajaani ) is a Finnish professional ice hockey player who is since April 2013 in the Espoo Blues in the SM- liiga under contract.

Career

Olli Malmivaara began his career as a hockey player in the junior department of Jokerit Helsinki. With its A-Juniors he was in season 1999/2000 national champion in the corresponding age group. He was then in the fourth round as a total of 117 players selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 2000 by the Chicago Blackhawks, for which, however, he never played. Instead, he stayed with Jokerit and was in the following years a strain force in the first team of the club in the domestic SM- liiga. In the 2001 /02 season he was with Jokerit for the first time in his career, Finnish Champion. Besides the game mode with Jokerit, the defender completed between 2000 and 2003 a total of six games as Players out on loan for Kiekko -Vantaa in the second Finnish league, the Mestis.

After Malmivaara had started the season in 2003/04 Jokerit, he changed the course of the season in the SM- liiga Jokerit to Lappeenranta. In Jokerit he was in the years to become an important part of the team and following the 2005/06 season in which he scored twelve goals in 62 games and had nine assists, which for him the season with the most scorer points of his professional career represented, he received a contract with the New Jersey Devils. For their farm team, the Lowell Devils, he played from 2006 to 2008 in the American Hockey League. He also stood in the 2007/ 08 season in two games for the New Jersey Devils, even in the National Hockey League on the ice.

For the 2008/09 season Malmivaara returned to his Finnish home and signed a contract with SM- liiga participants JYP Jyväskylä, for which he has performed since then. With his new team, he immediately won the second championship of his career in the professional sector. For JYP himself it was the first title in club history. The Finnish national team and U18 Junior World Champion in 2000 played a big part in this success. He received the Matti - Keinonen trophy as a player with the best plus / minus balance of all the players in the main round. In the play-offs, he was also the player with the best plus / minus balance. In addition, he was elected to the All-Star team in the league.

Internationally

For Finland Malmivaara took at junior level at the U18 World Youth Championship in 2000, as well as the U20 World Junior Championships in 2001 and 2002 in part. In each of these three tournaments he won a medal seinenen teams; at the 2000 U18 World Cup, the gold, at the 2001 U20 World Championship silver and at the U20 World Cup 2002 bronze medal. In the senior level, he stood in 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2011 in the squad of his country at the Euro Hockey Tour.

Olli Malmivaara comes from a family of artists. His sister Laura Malmivaara is also an actress as his cousin and his uncle Malla Malmivaara Juha Malmivaara.
