Highway 11 is a 1789 km long road in the Canadian province of Ontario. The Highway 11 begins as a continuation of Minnesota State Highway 72 between Ontario and the U.S. state of Minnesota with crossing the Rainy River near the town of Rainy River. It ends at the Ontario Highway 400 in Barrie, in which he opens. Highway 11 is partially a part of the Trans-Canada Highway.

Route

The western beginning of the highway is located in Rainy River. It is the continuation of the Minnesota State Highway 72 and leads to the east. Approx. 50 km to the start of the route is taken from the North Highway 17 on Highway 11 from here carried the distinction of being part of the Trans-Canada Highway. In common route both run on the next 40 km to Fort Frances, Highway 17 branches off to the south and terminates after a few meters on the border with the United States. Highway 11 follows the banks of the Rainy Lakes, then only just 5 kilometers north of the city to cross the lake at a narrow point. 280 km east of Fort Frances Highway 11 meets for the first time on Highway 17 together cause the highways on the following 160 km away. The route leads through Thunder Bay and follows the shore of Lake Superior. Behind Nipigon, the two highways separate again. Highway 17 heads east to the city of Sudbury, while Highway 11 first north, then heads east. It opens up the Greenstone community, which consists of the following parts of Beardmore, Geraldton and Longlac. In Cochrane swings the route to the south. Near Porquis Junction, a community east of Highway 45 km south of Cochrane, Highway 65 branches off to the northeast towards. The 11 km long highway leading to Iroquois Falls. Highway 11 follows on the southeast, where it meets Highway 101, with which he runs together with 6 km Matheson. In New Liskeard, a little haven of Temiskaming Shores, crosses Highway 65, which leads to the nearby province of Quebec.

The route continues to the south and meets outside the city limits of North Bay again on Highway 17, with which then run the following 4 km together. Shortly after the beginning of the expansion as Freeway, the two routes separate again, Highway 17 leads to the Greater Ottawa on the east, while Highway 11 continues south. The following 175 km extended as a freeway and perform mostly around as bypasses to the surrounding communities. 2012, the bypass was released to Sundridge to traffic, the old route is now being continued as Highway 124. South of Gravenhurst ends of the expansion. In Orillia, a 9 km long piece again is expanded as Freeway, there take the route on Highway 12, which runs west to Midland and east to Whitby. From here the award ends up as Trans-Canada Highway. The following 22 km are not yet developed as a freeway. In Barrie begins again the freeway, but ends by Highway 11 and continues to the confluence as Highway 400A onto Highway 400.

Extension

The section between Thunder Bay and Nipigon, runs together on the Highway 11 and 17, is to be widened to four lanes in the coming years. The expansion is done in sections and should be completed by 2016.
