Oščadnica

Oščadnica (Hungarian Ócsad - to 1902 Oscsadnica ) is a municipality in the north of Slovakia.

Geography

It is located in the mountains Kysucké Beskydy in the valley of the brook below the mountain Velka Raca Oščadnica, 9 km east of Čadca and about 30 km north of Zilina away. In the village there is a goralisch speaking minority.

History

The village was first mentioned in writing in 1579 and grew out of a Walachensiedlung. In 1720 three mills and 45 households were taxed in the settlement. In 1784 lived in 254 houses 391 families with 1929 inhabitants. In 1828 there were 306 houses and 2987 inhabitants, who were engaged in cattle farming and wood processing.

Economy and Transport

Today the town is a summer and winter tourist center. The railway maintenance Oščadnica lies on the railway line Žilina - Bohumín. Through the village, the 11 runs as E75
