Oskar Osala

Oskar Osala ( born December 26, 1987 in Vaasa ) is a Finnish professional ice hockey player who is under contract with HK Metallurg Magnitogorsk in the Kontinental Hockey League since December 2013.

Career

Oskar Osala began his career as a hockey player in his hometown in the junior department of Vaasan Sport, for its first team to 2005 he was active from 2003 in Mestis, the Finnish second division. He then spent two years playing for the Mississauga IceDogs in the Canadian Junior Football League Ontario Hockey League. During this period, he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 2006 in the fourth round as a total of 97 players from the Washington Capitals. In the 2006/07 season he was also on twice for the Finnish U20 national team in Mestis. In the following season he remained in Finland and has been with the Espoo Blues of the SM- liiga runner-up. As the best rookie of the SM - liiga, he also received the Jarmo - Wasama Memorial Trophy.

In the 2008 /09 season Osala mainly played for the Hershey Bears - the farm team of his Draft Team Washington Capitals - in the American Hockey League. With the Bears, he won the Calder Cup at the end of the season. For this success he contributed with 47 points scorer, with 29 goals in 97 games. He also came in the same season his debut for the Washington Capitals, for in the National Hockey League, he got in two games on the ice. After Osala had started the 2009/10 season with the Hershey Bears, he was transferred to the Carolina Hurricanes in March 2010, shortly before the trade deadline from Washington. By the end of the season he came to another NHL insert for Carolina, while he spent the rest of the time at their AHL farm team Albany River Rats. In the 2010/11 season he played for Carolina new AHL farm team Charlotte Checkers.

In May 2011 he was engaged by Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk of the Kontinental Hockey League. In Neftekhimik he completed over 100 KHL games before he was released in December 2013 in exchange for Pavel Sdunow and a money payment to the Metallurg Magnitogorsk.

Internationally

For Osala Finland took part in the junior level at the U18 World Junior Championship in 2005 and the U20 World Youth Championship in 2007. In the 2007 U20 World Cup with five goals was tied with four other players top scorer of the tournament. In the senior level in 2008 he was in the squad of his country at the Euro Hockey Tour and the World Cup in 2010.
