Palise

Palise is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Palise is located on 228 m, about 16 km north- northeast of the city of Besançon (air line). The village extends slightly increased on the southern edge of the Talniederung Ognon in the extreme northwest of the Doubs.

The area of ​​2.09 km ² municipal area comprises a portion of Ognon Valley. The western and northern boundary runs along the Ognon as it flows with several turns by about one kilometer wide, flat Talniederung. From the river, the municipality's area extends south across the formerly marshy flood plain adjacent to the high terrace which consists of glacial river deposits. It is mainly passed with arable and meadow land. On a hill to the south is the forest of the Bois Grésaillères. Here at 266 m is reached the highest elevation of Palise.

Neighboring communities of Palise are Aulx -lès- Cromary the north and east, Venise and Vieilley in the south and Cromary in the West.

History

Finds of graves from the Merovingian period ( 6th and 9th centuries ) point out that the municipality of Palise was inhabited very early. In the Middle Ages Palise formed a Kastlanei, which was under the rule of Châtillon -le- Duc. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today Palise part of the community association Communauté de communes du Val de la Dame Blanche.

Population

With 133 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Palise is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (1906, 51 people were still counted ), a significant population increase has been recorded since the early 1980s. Since then, the population has more than doubled.

Economy and infrastructure

Palise was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares. Accessible is the village either by Moncey or Vieilley Cromary respectively. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about 11 km.
