Peace Cup

The Peace Cup is an international football competition, which is discharged from the Sunmoon Peace Football Foundation, which is very closely linked to the Unification Church of the Korean Sun Myung Moon. Teams from different continents will compete against each other and should therefore contribute to world peace. Since its founding in 2003, the tournament was held every two years in South Korea. In 2009, the Peace Cup, however, was held in Spain. The previous winners were all top teams from Europe. The Dutch club PSV Eindhoven, the English Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa, the French serial champions Lyon and the German tradition club Hamburger SV were allowed to decorate so far by winning the Cup. Since the Cup for men was adopted internationally, the organizers decided to introduce an extra competition for women's football in 2006. This is called the Peace Queen Cup and is discharged from eight national teams from five continents. Since the tournaments take place in different years, an edition of the Peace Cup is played each year. First winner of the women's tournament was the wife of the U.S. national team.

Game Mode

The first tournaments of the Cup was played in two groups of four teams. The two group winners play the finals with each other. For the 2009 tournament, competition was increased to twelve participants, who were divided into four groups. The group winners qualified for the semifinals.
