Pedersöre

Pedersöre (Swedish, Finnish, Soren Peder kunta ) is a municipality in the western Finnish landscape Ostrobothnia. It includes the area around the port city of Jakobstad in the archipelago of the Gulf of Bothnia. 91 percent of the 10,935 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012) are Finland Sweden, 7 percent speak Finnish as their native language. Officially, the municipality is bilingual.

Administrative headquarters are Bennäs (Finnish: Pennäinen ), the largest city Kallby ( Kolppi ). Pedersöre is one of the oldest communities Österbottens and was first mentioned in documents in 1348. The Jakobstad founded in 1652 on the territory of the municipality and received her Finnish-language name Pietarsaari after Pedersöre. The community was called Pedersöre contrast to 1989 in Finnish officially Pietarsaaren Maalaiskunta, ie " rural community Jakobstad ". The stone church of Pedersöre is today in the city of Jakobstad.
